Wilderness Medicine Course Offerings

We offer Wilderness First Responder (WFR), Wilderness First Responder Recertification, and professional-level wilderness medicine courses held in the ideal classroom of the rugged and remote terrain of the southwest.

Our WFR course locations include Durango, Colo., Telluride, Colo., and Moab, UT. Camping is usually available on-site or nearby and all our locations offer extensive opportunities for adventure after class.

Wilderness First Responder (WFR) + Wilderness First Responder Recertification

Wilderness First Responder, or WFR, is the definitive course in medical training for outdoor educators, guides, search and rescue team members, or families and weekend warriors who play in remote areas.

Our WFR Recertification course is open to all graduates of wilderness medical training courses of 64 hours or longer with a current WFR certification.

We offer WFR and WFR recerts throughout southwestern Colorado, southern Utah, or at your custom location!

Professional Wilderness Medical Training

We offer Wilderness EMS Upgrade (WEMS) and Wilderness Advanced Life Support (WALS®) courses taught by active paramedics, RNs, PA-Cs, and MDs with AMGA/IFMGA guides as adjunct instructors for the highest level of wilderness medical and rescue training available.

Our courses are certified by Wilderness Medical Associates International (WMAI), an organization devoted to the development of remote and practical medicine. WMAI is made up of medical and rescue professionals, researchers, experienced educators, and advocates for healthcare in remote settings and hostile environments.

WMAI’s cutting-edge curriculum is overseen and continually revised by a committee of medical practitioners and has been taught on all seven continents. WMAI certifications are valuable to those working in the outdoor industry as rescue team members as well as families and weekend adventurers.

For EMT’s, Paramedics, RN’s, and MD’s, WMAI classes provide CME hours for continuing education or re-certification.
